#deplatformed

In the past few months I made a series of changes to my (tiny) online presence, in order to deplatform myself.

The term has been applied to people being deplatformed (out of Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc) against their will. When the deplatforming is voluntary, as in my case, it will not necessarily mean to disappear.

I will be diverting my communication channels to small-scale providers, away from big tech giants.

I invite everybody caring for freedom to do the same, both in private and professional life.

The #deplarforming quest is the only way to understand how not free our lives are. Today, using anything makes you subject to the fine-grained surveillance and automated censorship power of few companies.

Their control is so pervasive that it became difficult to use even trivial digital technologies without first subscribing to some service, which allows to box all our activity into a nice container, corresponding to ourselves.

Is it possible to escape?

How?

That’s what I will try to explain in my #deplatformed series.
